Jamaica Was Pure Vibes From Start To Finish
There are some trips you enjoy… and then there are trips that completely shift your mood, energy, and perspective before you even leave the airport.
Jamaica was definitely the second kind.
Warm people. Loud music. Endless laughter. Amazing food. Waterfalls that make you feel alive again. Rum that somehow tastes smoother in the Caribbean. And a culture that feels vibrant, expressive, and unapologetically joyful.
I visited Jamaica in 2023 and honestly? It was one of the easiest, most fun, and unexpectedly relaxing trips I’ve taken. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I planned to visit with my girlfriends, but whatever the expectations, they were unexpectedly exceeded!
Whether you’re planning a girls trip, solo escape, birthday getaway, baecation, or group vacation, Jamaica has this incredible ability to make you feel both energized and at ease at the same time.
And if you’ve been wondering whether Jamaica is worth visiting — this is your sign to book the flight.
My 5-Day Jamaica Itinerary

Where I Stayed: Montego Bay
I stayed at Riu Montego Bay and it honestly set the tone for the entire trip. It was the first time I was really staying at a resort and I was gassed the whole time!
The resort had:
- waterparks
- multiple restaurants
- beachfront views
- nightly entertainment
- karaoke sessions
- pools that somehow always had music playing
- the kind of carefree vacation energy you immediately settle into
One thing about Caribbean all-inclusive resorts?
They know how to make relaxation feel effortless.
The nights at the resort were especially fun because there was always something happening. Karaoke nights became one of my favorite unexpected memories because everyone was singing like they were auditioning for a world tour — confidence levels fully at 100%.
And the food? Let’s just say I understood very quickly why people become emotionally attached to Jamaican cuisine. Well seasoned and enough variety. My palette was pleased.
Day 2 – Day Trips To Ocho Rios Were The Highlight
If you’re visiting Jamaica and skipping Ocho Rios, respectfully… you’re doing it wrong.
Spend your second day on a guided tour to Ocho Rios cos your day 1 should be spent in the resort, resting.
Ocho Rios ended up being one of the most memorable parts of my trip because it perfectly blended adventure, nature, adrenaline, and those “I can’t believe I’m actually doing this” moments.
Dunn’s River Falls
Walking up Dunn’s River Falls felt like being inside a movie scene.
The water rushing around you, everyone helping each other climb the rocks, the laughter, the tiny moments of panic followed by “wait this is actually so fun” — it genuinely felt like one of those core travel memories you never forget.
And yes, you will get soaked.
Accept it early.

Travel Tip:
Wear water shoes.
This is not the place for cute slippery sandals. You will lose them and you could get hurt.
The Blue Hole (Even If You Can’t Swim)
Now let me tell you something important.
I cannot swim properly.
And somehow I still found myself jumping into the famous Blue Hole because the energy there makes you feel fearless for five minutes. Don’t forget to wear a life jacket though.
Between the rope swings, cliff jumps, and people hyping each other up, it became one of the most unexpectedly empowering moments of the trip.
There’s something about travel that constantly reminds you:
you’re capable of more than you think.
Even if your brain is screaming “absolutely not” before the jump.
Day 3 – Horse Back Riding In The Ocean and Scuba Diving Was Core Memory Unlocked
Waking up to a guided tour at the Chukka Caribbean was such a thrill to say the least. We booked a horse back riding in the ocean and it was a core memory unlocked.
Riding those gallant horses, giggling with friends as our feet entered the water, this is best experienced in real life!
And then there was scuba diving.
One thing Jamaica is going to do is convince you to become more adventurous than you planned. Scuba diving was definitely not in my bingo cards for Jamaica but I was incredibly glad I faced my fears and braved it!

While staying at Riu Montego Bay resort, I tried scuba diving for the first time with my girlfriends and honestly? It was one of the most surreal experiences of the trip. There’s something incredibly calming about being underwater — almost like the world goes quiet for a second. Even as a beginner, the instructors made the experience feel approachable and safe, which made it easier to actually enjoy the moment instead of panic through it.
Not going to lie, it was the scariest yet best moment of my travel life!
If you’re planning a Jamaica itinerary, I’d absolutely recommend adding at least one adventure activity outside the typical resort experience. Jamaica does an amazing job balancing soft life with adrenaline-filled moments, and that combination is part of what makes the island so memorable.

Day 4 – Bamboo Rafting Will Feel Like Peak Soft Life
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t get around to doing this activity because we unfortunately had a mix in our itinerary. However, don’t be like us. This activity will give you the serene soft life you definitely deserve.
Floating along the river surrounded by greenery, music, and slow island energy is bound to feel incredibly calming. Jamaica has this beautiful balance between excitement and relaxation that makes it ideal for both adventurous travelers and people who simply want to unwind.
Honestly?
10/10 soft life experience.
Day 5 – Recharge Before The Return
It’s always bittersweet the last day before you have to return to the reality of your regular life. But you can make the best out of it.
We spent the last day kayaking at the resort, trying out other restaurants we hadn’t yet tried and exploring a bit of the nightlife.
Don’t forget to rest so you don’t feel like you need a vacation from this vacation!
Things That Surprised Me About Jamaica
The Driving System Confused Me In The Funniest Way
One of the most random but interesting things I noticed was seeing both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive cars on the road.
As someone visiting, my brain genuinely needed a few business days to process it.
But somehow it works.
And honestly, it perfectly matched the energy of Jamaica — vibrant, unique, and operating fully on its own rhythm.
The Nightlife Is So Much Fun
Jamaica knows how to have a good time.
From music playing almost everywhere to lively restaurants, bars, beach vibes, and spontaneous dance moments, the nightlife felt fun without being overwhelming.
Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, there’s this social warmth that makes it easy to enjoy yourself.
The energy is very:
“Everyone is outside and nobody is rushing home.”

Yes… The Rum Is Incredible
I understand the hype now.
Jamaican rum tastes dangerously smooth.
Between the cocktails, local bars, and resort drinks, it quickly became clear why rum is such a huge part of Jamaican culture and nightlife.
Drink responsibly… but also enjoy yourself.
Weed Accessibility Is Very Open
One thing many travelers notice quickly is how openly cannabis culture exists in Jamaica.
It’s deeply tied to Rastafarian culture and tourism in many areas. You’ll likely encounter dispensaries, vendors, or guided experiences throughout tourist zones.
Important Travel Tip:
Always remain respectful of local laws, hotel policies, and airport regulations when traveling internationally.
Is Jamaica Safe For Solo Travelers?
Honestly, Jamaica felt warm, welcoming, social, and tourist-friendly throughout my experience.
Like anywhere in the world, staying aware, using trusted transportation, and practicing common travel safety is important. But overall, I found Jamaica easy to navigate and especially great for:
- girls trips
- solo travel
- birthdays
- couples trips
- group vacations
The tourism infrastructure is strong, excursions are well organized, and people were generally incredibly friendly.

Jamaican Dollar (JMD) is the local currency, though USD is widely accepted in tourist areas.

- A good vacation mindset
Trust me on the last one.

Where I’m Going Next In Jamaica
As much as I loved Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, I already know this wasn’t my final Jamaica trip.
Next time, I definitely want to explore:
- Negril for the beaches and sunsets
- Kingston for the culture, music history, food scene, and local energy
Because one thing Jamaica does very well is make you want to come back for more.
Final Thoughts: Why Jamaica Is Worth Visiting
Jamaica felt vibrant. Free. Joyful. Restorative.
It’s the kind of destination where adventure and relaxation somehow exist side by side. One minute you’re climbing waterfalls, the next you’re floating down a river with music in the background wondering why life can’t always feel this easy.
And honestly?
That’s the magic of travel.
Sometimes you visit a place for the itinerary… and leave with memories, confidence, laughter, and stories you’ll keep replaying long after the trip ends.
Jamaica gave me all of that.
And I’d go back in a heartbeat.
